Growing the Future

Future Lawn Culture

Where can I seed bomb?

These seed bombs don’t only need to be used to grow on your own land. As you’ll see below, we are in the process of developing ways to grow plastic-destroying bacteria at home for use in landfills. If there are waterways or ecosystems near you that have been destroyed, your plant bombs could be helpful in restoring these areas. Or, if you’re looking for forms of peaceful protest, you could seed-bomb the lawns around the entities that you’re protesting. This way, you can disrupt and help the environment at the same time. Just make sure everything you're doing is legal!

Average/Wet Soil: Wild Blueflag, Swamp Milkweed, Common Boneset. Host flowers for butterflies!

In the future, we hope to see the disappearance of grass lawn culture. Judging neighbors based on how well their grass lawns are maintained negatively impacts the environment, as it pressures people to make choices that waste water and create heavy runoff. A good way to prevent water waste is to use native plants that don’t require any more water than nature provides. They also won’t need supplemental fertilizers in order to grow, as native bacteria returns to the soil. This will reduce maintenance and prevent toxic runoff into ecosystems. In addition, these plants prevent erosion by putting down roots that are deeper than lawn grass, so dirt and waste will stay in place instead of going into waterways. The best part is return of local fauna: you may see butterflies and pollinators thriving as they use your garden as a food source. By using seed bombs to create lawns and spaces like the ones below, you’ll be indirectly helping to make many of your favorite foods - apples, honey, berries, and tons of other fruits that rely on bees.

Average/Wet Soil: Blue Bigstem, Black-Eyed Susan, Switchgrass, False Sunflower. Provides bird nesting materials.
